I’m Héctor Villarreal Ortega, a Senior Backend & Platform Engineer specializing in Python, Odoo, and business-critical infrastructure.

I’m a Senior Backend & Platform Engineer with 8+ years of experience designing, optimizing, and operating business-critical systems with Python, Odoo, PostgreSQL, Docker, and AWS. My work sits at the intersection of backend engineering, ERP modernization, e-commerce infrastructure, and production reliability.

In recent platform and ERP work, I’ve translated complex procurement, inventory, accounting, and e-commerce workflows into reliable Odoo implementations and integrations. I’ve built asynchronous data pipelines with AWS SQS, connected platforms such as Shopify, Saleor, and Autostore WMS, migrated CI/CD from GitLab CI to GitHub Actions, modernized Docker-based infrastructure, and moved high-volume attachment storage to AWS S3.

I care deeply about performance and maintainability. One of my strongest case studies was diagnosing a slow B2B e-commerce backend with APM and profiling tools, then reworking the core logic to reduce API latency from around 10 seconds to under 1 second. As an Odoo Community Association maintainer, I’ve reviewed hundreds of pull requests, fixed compatibility issues, and helped contributors improve code quality across a global open-source workflow.

My current focus is platform engineering for high-availability backend systems: clean deployment paths, observable services, resilient integrations, and pragmatic AI-augmented workflows for research, prototyping, documentation, and delivery automation.
